Studio Policies

Maria Wagner Clarinet Studio Policy
September 2022 - August 2023

My Responsibilities

I will share the language of music by teaching technique and expression on the clarinet. I will tailor my curriculum to match each student’s needs, interests, and goals.

My mission is to empower students with the skills to continue learning between lessons by encouraging commitment, self-awareness, and by outlining clear practice routines and step-by-step goals.

I will create a welcoming and accepting environment by treating each student with patience and kindness.

Student and Family Responsibilities

Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, with their clarinet in good working condition and their folder with all lesson materials including books, printouts, and assignment sheets, and a pencil.

Students agree to practice at home between lessons. The amount of practice time suggested will vary depending on the age and goals of each student. The objective is to have the weekly assignment well prepared by the next lesson. Please ask questions about home practice assignments and give me feedback if the assignments are too challenging or not challenging enough, and I can adjust our approach.

Parents: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. The more information I have, the more I can be sensitive to the needs of your child.

All students are encouraged to play at the Spring Studio Recital (late May/early June date TBD). Recital participation is not mandatory. Students will also be encouraged to audition for local ensembles and music summer camps. If you learn of an opportunity that you or your student would like to participate in, bring information to the next lesson.

Tuition and Schedule

Flat Rate Tuition: Flat monthly tuition rates are based on the number of guaranteed lessons in the calendar year divided into 12 equal installments. When a student enrolls, they are reserving a weekly time slot in the studio schedule. Invoices are based on the total number of lessons the studio schedules and will not be altered.

There will be a minimum of 45 lessons offered throughout the year, and the weeks when lessons are not held will be communicated in advance.

Planned Studio Breaks 2022 - 2023
Thanksgiving Break November 20 - 26
Christmas Break December 25 - 31
Spring Break TBD
July Break TBD
Back to School Break August 27 - September 2

Two additional lessons are built into the calendar, for a total of 47 lessons during the year. In the case of teacher illness, these two additional lessons can be canceled by the teacher with short notice. These weeks are complimentary in the case that no illness cancellations occur.

Tuition installments are due on the 1st of every month. Invoices will go out by the 25th of the month prior and will reflect the flat rate and list the lessons scheduled for that month. If payment is not received by 7 days after the due date there is a $20 late fee. You may enroll in auto-payment from your debit/credit card on the 1st of each month to avoid late payment. Recurring late payments may result in termination of the student’s enrollment. All payments are non-refundable and non transferable.

To terminate lessons and tuition, written notification must be received via email 2 weeks in advance of the 1st of the month. In the event that this deadline is not met, tuition will still be due for the entire next month and any automatic payments will still run on the 1st of the month. Students have the option to attend all paid lessons that month. Lessons will then cancel for the following month. (The 2 week termination policy is waived for first time students for the first month.)

Payment Methods

Auto-pay: Save your debit/credit card info in your Duet Partner account and payment will automatically run on the 1st of each month through Stripe. In the event that a payment is returned or declined, a 48 hour window will be provided to adjust the payment method and resubmit payment.

Online payment: Invoices will include a link to pay online. Follow the link or log into your Duet Partner account and pay online with a credit/debit run through Stripe.

Cash/Check: You may bring cash or a check for the full monthly installment to your first lesson of each month, or mail the check to me. After the 7th of the month, the late fee applies. If you will be absent for the first lesson of the month, please mail the check in advance or pay online.

Students are responsible to cover additional costs for materials (books, reeds, music, etc.)

Rescheduling, Cancellation, and Make-up Lessons

Any request to alter the student’s weekly time slot requires 24 hours notice.

If you need to reschedule your lesson time for another time the same week, contact me with at least 24 hours notice and we can reschedule that week subject to my availability. If my schedule does not have an opening, you will receive a make-up lesson credit.

If you have a planned week-long absence (ex. a vacation), contact me with at least 24 hours notice and you will receive a make-up lesson credit.

A cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will not receive a make-up lesson credit. A request to reschedule with less than 24 hours notice is considered a cancellation and will not receive a make-up lesson credit.

Make-up lesson credits will be tracked in Duet Partner. I will periodically open up days for make-up lessons (ex: the Tuesday of Thanksgiving Break week) and will announce them in advance via email. You may also contact me to request to use your make-up lesson credit at any time (ex. you have an audition coming up and want two lessons in one week) and I will do my best to accommodate your request that week.

Make-up lesson credits are valid for 3 months. If the student does not use their make-up lesson credit within 3 months, the credit and its corresponding lesson are forfeited. Make-up lessons do not count as credit for the next month’s tuition.

Occasionally due to my performance schedule I may request to reschedule your lesson to another time during the week. I will give as much notice as possible. If we cannot find a mutually agreeable time, you will be given a make-up lesson credit.

Weather cancellation: If it is unsafe to travel to your in-person lesson, we can hold your lesson online at your normally scheduled lesson time.
