Mindful Breath & Movement for Musicians

No matter what instrument you play, being a musician is a full body, mind and emotional experience. Over the years, Maria has witnessed the tremendous ways her yoga practice has supported her sometimes very demanding lifestyle as a musician, and conversely, the way her musical creativity and expression has enlivened her teachings as a yoga instructor. A true offspring of her two passions, Maria created a class designed especially for musicians, to introduce them to the fundamental teachings of yoga and mindfulness to support their musical life and mind-body wellbeing.

Mindful Breath and Movement for Musicians is a guided class of gentle, non-strenuous practices for the breath, body, and mind inspired by yoga. These practices can help musicians develop awareness, concentration and focus, and overall wellbeing to help navigate the physical, mental, and emotional demands of being a musician. Learn practices to calm performance anxiety, to deepen your access to breath, to feel connected to your innate creativity and to protect the body from repetitive stress injuries in a safe and supportive environment. No yoga or musical experience necessary, all are welcome.

Maria has enjoyed leading workshops with musicians of the Portland Chamber Music Festival, Oratorio Chorale, Freeport High School, the Southern Maine Music Academy and the USM School of Music.
